Winter Buyers are Serious Buyers
It finally snowed and it’s January! If you are thinking about putting your house on the market in 2012, consider selling now. Inventory levels are very low and there are plenty of buyers looking to take advantage of the incredibly low interest rates.
When you put your house on the market this winter, please keep in mind that it gets dark earlier in the day. One huge advantage with the RE/MAX yard sign is that it’s reflective and oncoming cars can read the For Sale sign in the dark. It’s the same reflective materials used on street signs.
Here are some other ideas to think about:
Shine Bright: If you have a showing, turn on all the lights – even the exterior lights. The brighter the house, the more inviting it will look. Exterior lighting is a must. Don’t leave your prospective buyers scrambling to find a flash light so they can find their way to your front door.
Clear the Snow and Ice: Make sure to clear as much snow off the driveway as possible to highlight the fact that there is plenty of parking. A clear path to the front door is essential to make a great first impression. Place a rug at the door so folks can wipe their feet. If you are offering booties, place a chair or bench for an easy transition.
Warm and Cozy: Keep the house at a comfortable 67-69 degrees. You don’t want to overwhelm them with too much heat and you definitely don’t want them to be too cold.
Winter buyers are generally very serious about buying. Therefore, sellers tend to benefit because each showing is more productive, and fewer showings are needed to sell the property.
